Why Education Studies?
Educational Studies equips students with a critical awareness of education. It explores education through a broad set of perspectives, relevant to an impressive range of careers; these include teaching but extend into leadership, policy-making and diverse roles within the voluntary and corporate sectors.
Education Studies at Bhaktivedanta College
Education Studies at the College has two distinct features. First, it equips students with direct experience of teaching and learning. Second, it explores the spiritual, religious and values domains of education, integrating the best of contemporary theory and practice with insights drawn from the ancient Vaishnava-Hindu traditions. Overall, it aims to develop high levels of professional insight and integrity.
Outstanding Career Opportunities
Many students train to be primary and secondary teachers, mainly within schools nurturing character, such as faith schools. The course also equips future educational leaders, at all levels. It further provides opportunities for becoming a trainer, facilitator or education officer within both charity and business organisations.
Excellent Prospects for Further Study
Most graduates move onto ITT (Initial Teacher Training), often through the UK-based Graduate Teacher Programme. The College has links with key IIT providers and collaborates closely with potential employer organisations, such as the UK-based I-Foundation. Some students move into post-graduate study, either through a PGCE (Post-graduate Certificate in Education) or an MA (e.g. in Religious Education or Childhood Studies).
Diverse Study Options
The three year Single Honours degree features core and optional modules, allowing students to choose one of three main pathways:
- Primary teaching
- Secondary teaching
- Educational leadership
Further pathways include 'Adult and tertiary education' and 'Pastoral care with education'.
