Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School (BGIS) is two schools in one - the primary level Gurukula, classes 1-8, and the International School--the secondary or high school level, Classes 9-12. The students in the International School take their final exams with a private board of education, the Council for the Indian Secondary Certificate of Education (CISCE), an internationally recognised board of education located in New Delhi, India.In the International School the students continue their training and education in spiritual practices and worldview. They also focus on their Board exams. The Council offers a wide range of subject choices to include the core academic as well as art, music, physical education, and computer applications.
The exam results for 2008 have shown a substantial increase from last year. The top student in Class 10 scored a 93% average compared to 88% in 2007, and in Class 12 the top student scored 87% compared with 80% last year. There were increases in all subjects with some students reaching between 90% - 100% in English, Math, Hindi, Social Studies, Environmental Studies, and Physical Education.
All 25 students passed the exams. The Class 12 students who graduated in March and are all continuing to university. One student will join Bhaktivedanta College in Radhadesh for his BA in vaisnava theology. This will be our third graduate to join Bhaktivedanta College and we hope this trend continues. We envision BGIS as a gateway school to Bhaktivedanta College.
