| History | The Gurukula – formerly known as Bhaktivedanta Manor School, has been running now for 43 years. With the dedicated service of devotees like Mother Guru, Mother Moksha and Mother Dantasaya, it has been a shining beacon for the devotee community around Bhaktivedanta Manor and many children have been raised through this lovely, small primary school. However, around four years ago the school was struggling. Many devotees felt that the school had served the Manor community well and it needed to remain as part of the education provision to future generations by offering sound primary education wrapped around service to Lord Krishna. So, a new charity was formed: The Gurukula Trust. Through many challenges, the mercy of Lord Krishna was felt, and the school carried on. Fundamental to its turn-around was the appointment of Mother Gunacuda as the Headteacher in 2020. She undertook an ambitious program which reworked the curriculum, improved the educational standards and simultaneously embedded Krishna Consciousness. This was all done under the backdrop and challenges of running a school during the pandemic. New and experienced teachers were recruited and gradually the predicament of the school was rectified. At the end of March of this year, OFSTED visited for a full inspection. Thanks to all the hard work of all the staff and community the school officially received a Good rating, which affirms the transformation that has taken place to enable them to achieve their vision of ‘Personalised learning in a spiritual environment.’ Many devotees contributed to this turnaround and the school offers a very special thanks to the management at Bhaktivedanta Manor, who kept faith and supported the school through thick and thin. |
