Srila Prabhupada Books are the most widely read Spiritual Books in the World

Significantly increase the regular readership of Srila Prabhupada books amongst devotees.

Books are the Basis is the foundational philosophy behind the ISKCON Ministry of Education. We strongly believe that the consistent reading of Srila Prabhupadas books is the cornerstone for a robust Sadhana. We also beleive that the propagation of daily reading is the most valuable service we as a Ministry can offer.

International Shravanam Week is a direct manifestation of our Books are the Basis project. It is a week solely dedicated to encouraging devotees to read Srila Prabhupadas books, and is an initiative fully supported by the GBC. In 2020, our Governing Body passed a formal resolution recognising Shravanam Week as an official festival, and instructed ISKCON leadership worldwide to inspire their community to partake in the celebrations by reading Srila Prabhupadas books.

In 2021’s festival, we celebrated by hosting several International Panels, featuring prominent leaders and preachers from every geography aross the globe. Some devotees were so inspired that they hosted their own local Panels, inviting members of their community to discuss how the daily reading of Srila Prabhupadas books impacted their lives. Others, like the devotees in Wellington New Zealand, started online reading groups to help keep their community positively engaged through social isolation.

Yet for us, Books are the Basis is not just an annual festival, it’s something that we try to celebrate daily. Everyday, we upload short videos from our Nectar Drop series, and every week, we release in-depth interviews with ISKCON leaders and preachers from around the world. We are doing all that we can to increase the vital reading of Srila Prabhupada’s books, but you can help us make a difference. Please subscribe to our YouTube channel, share our videos, inspire others and help us promote this revolution.
