Conscious Reading

Conscious Reading

Our offering to You

Conscious Reading is based on Srila Prabhupada’s instructions regarding reading His Divine Grace’s books. It was written with the express purpose of making the daily reading of Prabhupada’s books an achievable goal for all devotees.
It is a joint collaboration between Devakinandan Prabhu from Kazakhstan and the Ministry of education. Devakinandan Prabhu, amongst his various services, is also the Regional Representative for ISKCON Ministry of Education in Russia.
We offer this book for free in the service of devotees. Please help us promote “Conscious Reading” worldwide with devotees in your temple, congregation and online sanghas. We are confident our book would in turn encourage many devotees to start reading Srila Prabhupada’s books everyday.

“This book starts out giving some Śrīla Prabhupāda quotes how Śrīla Prabhupāda wanted his followers to read his books and that he wants all the devotees to be absorbed in reading Śrīla Prabhupāda books. Then the book becomes a text book, why and how one should read the books. Then examples are given and even some examples like, why people in their professions have to read professional books to keep up to date and how different books of spirutual nature are very beneficial.

So many good instructions are given for the devotees. Some disciples tell how their memory is poor, not good for reading, but this book gives the inspiration and method to overcome these obstacles. And evolve various reading habits. I read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam for about 45 minutes every night since I am taking the Bhakti Vaibhava exams. I am on the 6th Canto and about to finish this and I read one chapter a day and write commentary on the Caitanya Book. I listen to Śrīla Prabhupāda lectures take prasadam. This book was so inspiring, I remember how Śrīla Prabhupāda had Bhagavad-gītā on his desk, he said we have to read the Bhagavad-gītā to be able to preach properly. So, I decided that I would read Bhagavad-gītā at least few verses a day as building up a habit is highly recommended in this book.

So I think that this book is useful both for those who have been reading books and those who are advancing or helping devotees for reading books to become proficient in reading. Actually, just like chanting japa is a way to do better japa, reading is a way to better reading and this book helps one in reading.”
